Offshore solar innovation presents significant potential within the offshore renewable energy sector, particularly for space optimization and co-location with offshore wind farms due to its adaptable design.

During the Floating Solar in Europe conference, represented by our DMEC’s colleague Simon Stark, the Nautical Sunrise project demonstrated the technical, environmental, and financial viability of offshore solar technologies. The Nautical Sunrise project, focusing on developing a tangible market for offshore solar, and the EU-SCORES project, focusing on the integration of offshore wind- and offshore solar, and offshore wind- and wave energy into bankable multi-source energy parks, were highlighted as pioneering examples. These projects underscore the critical role offshore solar plays in the sector.

Additionally, leading European offshore solar technology developers such as SolarDuck, Oceans of Energy were featured, showcasing innovative solutions that enhance the utilization of export infrastructure and strengthen the business case for offshore solar parks.

The Floating Solar in Europe annual conference covers various aspects of offshore floating solar, from the technical design to the benefits and challenges of developing offshore solar installations, as well as the market expansion of the technology.
