Work Packages Description

The work packages are designed to address key aspects of the offshore floating photovoltaic (OFPV) system's development, deployment, and integration. Each package focuses on specific objectives, including technical innovation, environmental impact assessment, economic viability, and operational optimization. Together, these work packages aim to advance OFPV technology, support sustainability, and foster its adoption as a reliable and efficient renewable energy solution worldwide.

WP 1 – Project management, communication, and dissemination

WP 1 is aimed towards coordination, communication, exploitation and management of the project over its initiation, execution, and closing, in a timely manner and compliant with EC guidelines & requirements.

WP 2 – Mechanical and electrical modelling and pre-deployment tests

Work package 2 is focused on establishing new behavioural models and validate them via wave tank tests, and advanced existing behavioural models. The team aims to develop an electrical integration model and test the degradation of the solar modules. In addition, they build the yield and power-output model establishing a digital twin for the OFPV system, in parallel to advance international standards for OFPV systems.

Work package 3 aim to design, construct, install, and maintain a cost-effective and reliable offshore floating photovoltaic (OFPV) system, while achieving full third-party class approval to validate its reliability and bankability.

WP 4 – Environmental impact analysis and life cycle assessment

Work package 4 evaluates the impacts of offshore floating photovoltaic (OFPV) and offshore wind on the marine food web’s base using coupled hydrodynamic-ecological models, assessing effects on key higher trophic-level species in HKW and the sea basin. It analyzes cumulative environmental effects and establishes a robust monitoring framework for policymakers and tenders, while assesses the use of remote sensing data for monitoring and perform a life-cycle evaluation of demonstration infrastructure and upscaled scenarios.

WP 5 – Supply chain innovations & industrialization

Work package 5 enhances the European supply chain across the value chain to support offshore floating photovoltaic (OFPV) solutions by focusing on enabling the development of innovative, modular system components applicable to all OFPV configurations, ensuring adaptability and efficiency.
